Early 1900s, American, from the Globe Wernicke Co., Cincinnati OH. The Ideal series was Globe Wernicke's most expensive, well built, and well appointed barrister bookcases. This particular bookcase is the 299 style (quarter sawn oak, rich finish, brass oxidized hardware). Five sections total, with graduated size bookcases, including one drawer base, one 12.25" bookcase, one 10.25" bookcase, one 8.5" bookcase and top. Bookcase dimensions are interior height, all bookcases are 9.5" deep. Features include stepback drawer base, paneled sides, beveled glass, deluxe hardware, acanthus leaves and dentil molding to the top section. In overall excellent original condition, including original finish, labels, hardware, and drawer pulls. A fine example of the style, with superb figuring to the oak. The middle bookcase glass pane has been replaced.
