Early 1900s, American, from the Globe Wernicke Co., Cincinnati OH. The Ideal series was Globe Wernicke's most expensive, well built, and well appointed barrister bookcases. This particular bookcase is the 598 style (solid mahogany, dark rich finish, brass oxidized hardware). Six sections total, with graduated bookcase sections, including one drawer base, one 12.25" bookcase, one 10.25" bookcase, one 8.5" bookcase, one 8.5" leaded cabinet section, and one top. Bookcase dimensions are interior height, all bookcases are 9.5" deep. Features include stepback drawer base, paneled sides, fluted columns, beveled glass, deluxe hardware, acanthus leaves and dentil molding to the top section. In overall good to very good original condition, including original finish, labels, hardware, keys, glass and drawer pulls. Rare upper cabinet section with functioning locks and keys. With some wear through out, particularly some finish loss to top right acanthus leaf.
